August Event Recap: Alumni Events Around the World

In August, over half of the CIEE Alumni Local Chapters held events. These casual gatherings brought together alumni from all CIEE programs to allow them to continue their CIEE experience and connect over a shared passion for international exchange.

Alumni Voices: Connecting Cultures in Louisiana and Senegal

Abby TerHaar graduated with a B.S. in Political Science from Texas Christian University in May 2015 and studied abroad with the CIEE Language + Culture Program in Dakar, Senegal during the fall of 2014. She is a Fulbright-Nehru English Teaching Assistant with the U.S. Department of State in New Delhi, India. She shared this story about finding connections between New Orleans and Senegal:

Program Spotlight: Camp Exchange USA

What if your office looked like this?

It does for participants of CIEE Camp Exchange USA, a program which places non-U.S. citizens in American summer camps to work as counselors for a summer. CIEE Camp Exchange participants work as cabin counselors or activity specialists, and are placed in summer camps throughout the United States.

August Alum of the Month: Sarah Sanderson, International Exchange Advocate & Rotary Peace Fellow

Sarah Sanderson exemplifies the spirit of international exchange. She is an alumna of multiple CIEE programs and a Fulbright fellow; most recently, she is the recipient of a Rotary International Peace Fellowship for 2015-16, and a winner of the U.S. Citizen Diplomacy Challenge.

Celebrating 25 Years of the Americans With Disabilities Act

July marked the 25th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). CIEE is proud to be a partner with Mobility International USA (MIUSA), an organization that empowers people with disabilities to achieve human rights through international exchange and international development. Program Spotlight: Camp Exchange USA

The Camp Exchange USA program brings international exchange to summer camps around the U.S. We visited three summer camps in our home state of Maine - Kingsley Pines, Wyonegonic, and Takajo - to learn more about the experience of our international summer camp counselors returning for another summer in the U.S.  

CIEE Alumni Career Month Coming in September

September is Career and Networking Month for the CIEE Alumni Global Network. Each week, we'll be posting career tips, alumni interviews, and other helpful resources. September 14-18 will be Industry Networking Week - a chance to connect with alums in the fields of communications, business, NGOs, education, and more. Stay tuned - more information coming soon! 

 



UPCOMING EVENTS

In the United States, we have CIEE alumni events in Chicago (August 18 at WeWork River North) San Francisco (August 22, San Pedro Valley Park), Washington D.C. (August 30, Meridian Hill Park), Boston, and New York (details TBD). 

We also have upcoming events in Turkey, Japan, and China: 

  • China: August 15 at Roof325 in Shanghai
  • Turkey: August 24 at Sortie Niwa Restaurant in Istanbul
  • Japan: October 2 at the American Center Japan in Tokyo
